Rogue Parkers are Warned

Police and council officers are clamping down on rogue parkers in north west Leeds over the next month.

During the next month the council's parking attendants will be joined on their patrols by police community support officers (PCSOs) in response to residents' complaints about parking.

The joint patrols have been organised by the Inner North West Inner Area Committee and started earlier this week in Headingley, Hyde Park, Woodhouse, Kirkstall and Weetwood.

PCSOs will issue parking tickets to cars causing an obstruction while the council's parking attendents will ticket drivers who ignore restrictions like double yellow lines or residents only parking.

Emergency services say that problem parking slows down their response times and the council's bin crews have been unable to complete their rounds because of cars causing an obstruction.

Chairman of the North West Inner Area Committee, Coun. James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said: "These joint patrols are in response to complaints from local people and the emergency services about the dangers that inconsiderate and illegal parking causes in inner north west Leeds.

"Patrols will take place in the area over the next four weeks and anyone who is caught parking where they shouldn't will receive a parking ticket.
