First Victory for Community

A Meanwood community has seen its first victory in a fight to keep green space they have used for decades.
The Highburys Residents Association have campaigned to keep a mission field next to St Oswald's Church they claim was given to the community years ago.
St Chad's Parochial Church Council own the church and the land surrounding it but have now withdrawn a planning application to develop the field.
An application to develop the church into flats has beeen slightly modified but would still involve excavation of the mission field.
The residents association has applied for the land to be registered as a village green and are now awaiting the decision of the law lords on a similar case in Oxford which will affect their hopes of keeping the land.
