Greener Together
Could YOU be one of the 50 people prepared to pledge to live more sustainably for a 6 month period? The Natural Food Store in conjunction with HDT is taking part in a government-funded action research project to see how easy – or how difficult- it is to carry out actions in your daily life to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2). You will be asked to take a few pledges in two of three areas (waste, energy or personal transport) and report on it. You may also find you save money too!
If you’ve never done anything ‘green’ before, because you just weren’t sure what you could do or how you could do it, then this project is a great place to start. You’ll receive support and encouragement to decide what’s best for you. If you’ve already begun to make changes to become greener then getting involved will help you to go further and help you to learn what’s most effective. Ultimately it’s up to you to decide which pledges you can do and try to stick to. All the pledges will be about reducing CO2, so whatever you choose, simple or not, it’ll be about making an important difference.
Could you – or someone you know – play a leadership role in the project?
We are looking for someone – maybe a student or other young person - interested in green issues who can act as the link person with Co-operativesUK (which is managing the scheme). They will receive training and support, including attending specialist gatherings with other participating businesses. All expenses will be paid and the Natural Food Store is offering a small bursary of £200 as a gesture of goodwill and support. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone keen on the issues and which they can add to their CV.
If you are interested in taking part (or would like to be, or recommend, the link person) please email info@naturalfoodstore.coop, info@headingleydevelopmenttrust.org.uk or you can phone Helen on 07788 190589. Please respond by Wed 31st March if you’d like to take part.
Kind Regards
