Friends of Beckett Park

Beckett Park is the largest green space serving the Headingley area and is well used for leisure, sport and play and also for parking for various events. There have been many concerns and suggestions for improvements regarding Beckett Park over the last few years. When visiting other parks in the area we see that they have more facilities than we enjoy on Beckett Park.

If you are a regular user of our Park and would like to become involved and have a say in how Becketts Park develops in the future then please email Margaret at We are looking for people to join the group.

Funding has been identified to protect the park by improving the perimeter fencing (protection from eg Traveller encampments) and at the same time add some other facilities such as new benches, bins, signage and the installation of adult fitness equipment.

24th February 2016:

The Friends of Beckett Park have achieved a lot in the short time since they began. The new Notice Boards and bins, for example, are to their credit.

We have been awarded a minimum of £8000 in the Tesco Bags of Help Award to fund trees for the park. Shoppers at Tesco local stores in the area will be able to vote to see which of the 3 finalists get further funding of £2000 or £4000. These funds will pay for some more mature trees which will be in addition to the 420 saplings already awarded by the Woodland Trust. The award has been made possible through the 5p charge for each carrier bag purchased in supermarkets since the charge was introduced in October 2015.

Our new website will be going live very soon and that will include the history of the Park, as well as a plan showing the positions proposed for the new trees. A copy of the proposal is on our Facebook page.
